Skin Needling

What is Skin Needling?

Microneedling is a form of therapy that utilises a row of thin needles that penetrate your dermis to a uniform depth, this is what causes a controlled skin injury. The controlled skin injury that is caused by this treatment stimulates rapid healing whilst also stimulating collagen and elastin fibre production which will result in SKIN REMODELLING. If you want fresh new looking skin, this may be a treatment you would be interested in!

How does it work?

Micro Punctures are created, which produce a controlled skin injury without causing any significant damage to the epidermis. These micro injuries lead to minimal superficial bleeding and set up a wound healing cascade with release of various growth factors such as platelet derived growth factor, transforming growth factor alpha and beta, connective tissue activating protein, connective tissue growth factor, and fibroblast growth factor.

What does Skin Needling treat?

Skin Needling can treat a vast majority of conditions including:

  • Various forms of scars
  • Alopecia
  • Stretch marks
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Pigmentary disorders
  • Acne scars

Does it hurt?

Skin needling is not considered painful, although there may be some slight discomfort. On the day of your treatment your therapist will take all measures to ensure you are comfortable before commencing your treatment. During the treatment you can expect needling to feel like tiny little scratches happening on the top surface of the skin.

Is there down time?

Erythema (redness) can be observed post treatment and can last up to 48 hours. Makeup is not recommended 3 days post treatment along with pools, saunas and spas. We recommend all our clients to try and stay away from direct sunlight for at least 2 weeks and always wear a SPF50+. Active ingredients can be applied to the skin after 3 days but if irritation does occur please stop use.

How do I prep my skin for Skin Needling?

Before your skin needling appointment we recommend to stop use of any active ingredients at least 3 days prior to your treatment. Any light based treatments and exposure to the sun can enhance the skin’s sensitivity so we recommend to try and avoid this for 2 weeks prior to your skin needling appointment.

How many treatments will I need and how far apart?

Depending on your main concern generally we recommend a minimum of 6 skin needling treatments. This can differ once we have fully assessed your skin and your main concern. Skin needling treatments can be spaced anywhere from 2-4 weeks apart, upon consultation your therapist will make you aware of treatment times depending on your main concern.

Combined treatments:

Skin needling can be combined with many in clinic treatments such as:

  • Laser genesis
  • LED
  • Skin tightening
  • Hydrafacial
  • Chemical peels
